Laurelle’s Fine Foods is owned and operated by Laurelle Nelson who fell in love with Granville Island while studying Home Economics at University of British Columbia. She always wanted to open her own business, especially after experiencing the wonderful European bakeries during her travels.
Laurelle and her husband Alvin Bissett opened the bakery deli in 1990. Their concept is home-style food, made from scratch on the premises daily using simple, fresh, quality ingredients.
They designed it as an open kitchen where customers can watch and experience food being prepared on site, smell the delicious cookies, bars and muffins coming out of the oven and chat with the production staff about the products. Laurelle’s Fine Foods offers an assortment of baked goods, take home meals, salads, casseroles as well as vegan and gluten free desserts, salads and savory items.
Laurelle’s Fine Foods is a family affair. Laurelle and Alvin have been joined by their children Matthew, Stephen, Brenden and Natalie, who help with everything from customer service, supervising, food preparation, cooking, training staff and store maintenance.
